Swangs Cottage is a character 16th Century white-washed holiday cottage that sleeps up to four guests in two bedrooms. It is located in the Cumbrian village of Lowick Green, near Coniston in the Lake District. With fantastic views over the Coniston Old Man range of mountains and the Crake Valley, Swangs Cottage provides dog friendly holiday accommodation that retains much original character including original oak beams and an open fire housing a wood burning stove.
This picture postcard historic Lakeland farmhouse has been sympathetically renovated, furnished with many antiques and provides a comfortable and cosy holiday retreat at any time of the year. Here you can take advantage of the stunning views and appreciate the simple things in life or use the cottage as a base for exploring the Lake District and its many attractions, in particular, Coniston and the surrounding area.
Swangs Cottage is positioned in a rural, quiet location in the heart of working farmland. It stands in a row of four cottages on a private lane and is just three miles from Coniston Water. There are two pubs within a short stroll serving excellent food and ale - a 14th Century pub, the Farmers Arms (just a one minute walk) and the Royal Oak in Spark Bridge (four minutes). The cottage has its own private parking for two cars and a lovely enclosed cottage garden with fields to the front and back.
Lowick Green is a traditional village that is surrounded by rolling farmland. It still hosts the annual Lowick show with an excellent display of local produce and crafts and the village is located directly on the Cumbria Way, providing plenty of fantastic walking opportunities. Guests staying at Swangs Cottage can enjoy fantastic walks directly from the front door through Lowick, Lowick Common and Sparkbridge.
There are plenty of attractions to suit all tastes and energy levels within this area. Coniston Water is just a short drive away and provides lots of sheltered bays around the beautiful lake where you can enjoy a picnic, swimming or take a ferry to visit Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin. The small town of Coniston is six miles along the shore and is surrounded by fantastic scenery and the picturesque market town of Ulverston is just four miles from the cottage with its cobbled streets lined with fascinating buildings including the famous Laurel and Hardy museum. The Haverthwaite Steam Railway is only three miles from Swangs and passes through four miles of spectacular Lakeland scenery before connecting with the famous Windermere Lake cruise ships at Lakeside where you can take a cruise to Ambleside and Bowness. Hill Top farm, where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her famous children stories, is also only a short drive away.
Other attractions include: Holker Hall, home to Lord and Lady Cavendish, with it’s historic buildings, spectacular views, beautiful gardens and the Lakeland Motor Museum; Furness Abbey, one of the greatest Cistercian foundations in the country and Muncaster Castle with its extensive gardens, to name just a few.

Cosy, comfortable lounge with lots of character, original features, antique furniture, original artwork, low oak beams and a stone/slate fireplace with multi-fuel wood burning stove. There is also a television and PS2 for playing games and DVDs and the lounge leads to the rear cottage garden.

Outside: There is a front gravelled patio garden which includes a cast iron table, chairs and bench. It overlooks the Coniston mountains and is an ideal place for enjoying a barbecue and watching the sun go down. There is also a rear cottage garden which is a fully enclosed suntrap with patio, summerhouse, tables, chairs and benches - perfect for alfresco meals and private, enclosed and safe for children to play.
Additional information: Dogs are welcome at an additional charge of £10 per week per dog. The property has electric storage heating. Flexible changeover days can be offered out of high season.
