Stone Howe is one of two lovely modern but homely holiday cottages, affording stunning views, in a peaceful area at the foot of Kirkstone pass and just a short walk from the heart of the popular Cumbrian village of Ambleside.
Ambleside is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District and Fells and is a thriving village that has become incredibly popular over the year with tourists, providing a host to great restaurants, character pubs and shops. It is also an ideal starting point for some of the Lake Districts finest walks.
Whilst the town pre-dates Roman times, Ambleside is primarily influenced by the Victorian era and has well known characters associated with it such as William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin. A short walk from the village takes you to Stock Ghyll Force, a spectacular seventy foot waterfall.
Surrounded by spectacular scenery, Ambleside is located at the Head of Windermere, England's largest lake within the Lake District National Park. From here you can take a steamer to Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside where you can relax whilst enjoying exceptional views of the mountains and Lakes.
Whether you are looking for a base from which to explore the Lake District and its many delights; a relaxing holiday amongst breath taking scenery or a holiday enjoying outdoor activities including mountaineering, hiking and mountain biking - Stone Howe has something to offer every one.
