Rowling End House is a delightful pet friendly, 5 Star Gold Award holiday home that can accommodate up to eight guests within four bedrooms. It is located in a superb location within the Newlands Valley, just four miles from Keswick within the Lake District. Set within private gardens and woodland, Rowling End House offers a peaceful tranquil retreat where you can relax and explore the many delights that the Lake District has to offer.
Wainwright saw Newland’s greatest blessing as the undisturbed peace and freedom from mass tourism and commercialisation and today the valley continues to enjoy a relaxed way of life that in essence has not changed over the years. Rowling End itself was a working farm until the 1950s and the land at the front of the house still provides sheltered pasture for sheep and cattle from neighbouring farms.
Whilst Rowing End is in a delightful secluded position, it is at the heart of the Northern Lakes and within easy distance of Borrowdale, Keswick, Derwentwater and Buttermere - whether by foot, car or bicycle. This is a perfect location for those who enjoy walking with plenty of opportunities directly from the front door. Whether you are looking for a full days hiking across the tops of the mountains (Wainwrights the Newlands Round or the Coledale Round) or a gentle stroll around the valley or down to the Lake (half an hours walk from where you can get a ferry around the lake or across to Keswick), Rowing End offers something for everyone.
For those new to walking in the Lakes, climbing Catbells (located directly opposite) is a must and offers magnificent views where on a clear day you can see the Solway Firth.
The land in front of Rowling End through which Newlands Beck flows, belongs to Rowling End. Much of the land is quite marshy which provides a haven for wildlife including buzzard and deer. You are also welcome to walk the fields at your own risk but need to be mindful of any livestock and leave the wildlife undisturbed.
There are plenty of things to do and see in this area to keep all ages amused, including: Honister slate mines; Borrowdale Go Ape; Braithwaite Keswick Climbing Wall; Whinlatter Forest; Cumberland pencil museum; The puzzling place; Newlands Adventure centre; Keswick Mire House; Keswick Trotters world of animals; Keswick Alhambra cinema; Keswick Launch ferry and Thronthwate Galleries.
For those who want to venture a little further afield, Penrith is twenty one miles, Carlisle thirty five miles and Workington is twenty miles.

Just to say thank you so much for the wonderful house. We all had a good holiday, Molly cried when she had to go! We loved the kitchen and aga, always so warm and it attracted all, so no one was left cooking on their own, a real plus!!
I hope we left nothing, we all looked as much as we could.
Many thanks we hope to come again!
Dear Mrs Roberts
Thank you so much for everything and for making us feel so welcome, especially the chocolate cake!! Seriously its been like home from home for these past 2 weeks, everything has been thought ofand everything catered for. We hope to return soon. we certainly wish we could take the view back home. All that come here to stay are really lucky.
We had a wonderful holiday at Rowling End and I'm now reading a fascinating book called "The Story of the Newlands Valley" by Susan Grant; Rowling End is mentioned several times!
I hope that you and your family have a lovely autumn and that we meet up with you again.
With best wishes,
