Ivy is a delightful ground floor self catering apartment in a traditional 19th Century Lakeland house (Pinethwaite), offering superb value for couples who want to explore the Lake District National Park. Situated in tranquil woodland, Ivy is the perfect place to relax and unwind – yet the pubs, restaurants and cafes of Windermere are just a mile away. The Dales Way is also nearby, with higher fells beyond, making Ivy a perfect base for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Lake District is a popular holiday destination all year round and Ivy is located in an enviable position near Windermere in the very heart of the National Park.
Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: badgers, foxes, roe and red deer and a wide range of birds, from long-tailed tits to buzzards and warblers, heron, fly catchers and many more.
Outdoor opportunities are endless and include walking, climbing, cycling, rowing, kayaking and sailing – all within easy reach. Golf is also available locally with Windermere Golf Club just up the lane from Ivy.
The popular tourist attractions of the southern Lakes are all on the doorstep including Windermere Steamboat museum, Beatrix Potter attractions and Windermere with cruise boats – and a little further away are the Car Museum, Aquarium of the Lakes, Sizergh Castle and Rheged.
Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles and offer a wide choice of tea rooms, shops, cafes and restaurants, along with modern and traditional pubs.
Windermere’s popular centre can be reached by railway and is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that provide wonderful views over the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head (a 784’ hill north of the town) provides one of the most superb panoramas, as does School Knott which is immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another gentle climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill to the east of Bowness, which has a 15th century church and quaint narrow streets. Lake Windermere itself has fourteen islands, including Belle Isle, privately owned with its 18th century round house.
Further afield, the list of steam railways, stately homes, lakes and tarns, fine eating establishments and homes of authors and poets is almost endless - all set in the deep foothills and valleys of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best climbing and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is still possible to leave cars and people behind and find peace and solitude in many parts of the Lake District.
