Heckbarley offers comfortable and well equipped self catering holiday accommodation which is situated within the Lake District National Park in the village of Ennerdale Bridge. It is perfectly located for exploring both the beautiful unspoilt Western Lakes and the coast - providing the perfect place to escape and relax.
The holiday cottage is just a short stroll from the village pub which serves wonderful meals and the village also offers a playground for children.
Tranquil Ennerdale Water (see photo below) is just one mile away. Unlike most major lakes in the Lake District, no public road runs along the shore, making Ennerdale a peaceful haven for wildlife.
For those who enjoy walking, Ennerdale provides forest and low level lakeside walks, along with routes onto the high fells. Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Long Distance Path passes the cottage's front door as it follows the length of Ennerdale. Cyclists too will not be disappointed with the C2C Cycle path, excellent for off-road cycling, nearby.
Places of interest include:
Loweswater (which appeared in the film "Miss Potter") - a hidden gem which is seldom visited.
Crummock Water and superlative Buttermere (30 minutes drive away).
Dramatic Wasdale, with Scafell England's highest peak and Wastwater its deepest lake.
Tranquil Eskdale, with the Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway.
Muncaster Castle.
Historic market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth's birthplace (10 miles north).
Whitehaven with Beacon museum at the harbour and the Rum Story (9 miles west).
Sandy beech and cliff top walks at St. Bees (30 mins drive).

Reviews and Testimonials for Heckbarley
Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The cottage is well fitted out and a short walk or drive from Ennerdale water. It is also on the Coast to Coast Long Distance Walk. At the same time, it is only a short drive from the coast. One of the main attractions though is that it is in a one of the less commercial areas in the Lake District but has the beautiful scenery and surroundings that characterise this part of the country. There is a hundred yards a pub that has a fine bar and excellent food. Highly recommended! Mr Miller, Berks
Comments: Extremely well-appointed, spotless, very comfortable. Situated right in the centre of the village near the pub, with great walks all around. I shall be back. Mr Inglis, London
Comments: The accomodation was of excellent quality. There was SKY TV books maps, leaflets etc. I have stayed in various parts of the lakes using late lets and usually find there is a trade off between the setting and accomodation. In this case however both were 5 star. Mr Harrison, Midlands
Comments: Excellent! Very well equipped cottage, clean and spacious to accomodate our large family with ease. All the little extras thoughtfully provided - games to keep children amused, full Sky TV package and a selection of local OS maps. The village is quiet and very picturesque with a lovely park for children. Owner very helpful in the one instance we had to make contact.
Mr Roy, Newcastle
