Orchard Barn is located within the pretty, highly sought-after village ofApplethwaite which only has a few dozen houses and is just two miles from the popular town of Keswick. It is a sleepy little hamlet with hens, ducks, goats and sheep wandering over the lane and as the lane does not take you anywhere, it is quiet from traffic and safe for pets and children to wander.
Riotous garden blooms of azalea and rhododendron brighten up the side of the lane and streams cascade down Skiddaw on their way to the River Derwent, and tumble merrily beside the road and farmsteads.
Whilst this location is wonderfully peaceful it is only a mile and a half from Keswick, with all it has to offer. You can walk there along the road, or on one of the many paths cutting through the village, on their way up to Skiddaw, Latrigg, or into the woods around.
Keswick is at the heart of the scenic Lake District, with lakes to explore, mountains to climb and scores of attractions to enjoy and things to do for example:
Lake Derwentwater, with launches, canoes, sailing dinghies and windsurfers for hire.
Paragliding fundays or tandem flights.
The Theatre of the Lakes and Keswick Cinema.
'Cars of the Stars' museum '.
Mirehouse', country house where Tennyson wrote the Morte d'Arthur.

Accommodation and facilities comprise:
The heart of the accommodation is the superb lounge with its coal fire for those cooler nights (coal provided) and the separate kitchen and dining area, which is twenty feet square, with patio windows looking out due South with magnificent view. This area provides plenty of room to play games together, watch the television (one in each room) or a video, talk about the days adventures or enjoy each other’s company over a leisurely meal.
The kitchen area has all home comforts, including dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker, fridge etc.
A separate utility room houses the washing machine, tumble drier and freezer.
Outside on the patio is a great place to relax with a drink whilst watching the sun go down over Bassenthwaite Lake.
The three bedrooms on the first floor share a shower room and a separate WC, and all have built in wardrobes. One has a double bed, the others have twin beds.
Upstairs again to the top floor brings three more bedrooms, again a double and two twins, with a very pleasant bathroom. All of these rooms have Velux roof windows.
Additional information: Bedding in the Barn (sheets and duvets) are provided for you with the exception of towels (please bring your own). There is also a cot, an iron and an ironing board. Heating is by electric storage heaters, with ancillary electric fires, and the coal fire in the lounge (heating included within the price). There is no additional charge for dogs (although dogs are limited to a maximum of 2).
