Nibthwaite Grange Cottage is located at the edge of the tiny peaceful hamlet of Nibthwaite Grange and sits within a quarter of an acre of enclosed and private gardens. It is at the edge of a deciduous wooded hillside which is a haven for birds and a good place for walks. Double doors from the family size kitchen/dining room lead onto the south facing garden and patio where, even in winter, it’s possible to enjoy sitting out to eat and drink whilst admiring the lovely views over the hills of Lowick and Blawith.
The cottage is thought to date from the 17th Century and has been carefully renovated to preserve many of the features of a traditional lakes cottage whilst meeting 21st Century standards. There are exposed beams, an unusual staircase and a wood burning stove in the living room, all creating a wonderful welcoming atmosphere to return home to of an evening. The cottage is very comfortable and particularly suitable for families and groups.
Walks directly from the house through the woods lead up to splendid views across Coniston Water to the Old Man of Coniston and Dow Crag and over Morecambe bay to the south. Various circular walks from two to five miles through woods and over the moors are described in detailed guides provided in the house.
From early to late summer the garden is a riot of colour and many visitors have to tear themselves away from this little paradise to explore the lakes, walk the mountains or visit the many local attractions. As the cottage is so near to the charming village of Coniston (eight miles) and the lake (two and a half miles) visitors can enjoy boating on the lake; take a trip on the famous Coniston steam yacht gondola or hire a boat or canoe at the Coniston boating centre. For cyclists, there’s nothing better than a ride from the cottage around beautiful Coniston Water. This can be combined with a visit to Brantwood House, garden and tea room, just a few miles along the lake from the cottage. Mountain bikers and walkers love the trails in nearby Grizedale Forest with its sculptures, imaginative play park and visitor centre.
There are several pubs serving real ale and good food within six miles of the cottage. The nearest is the Red Lion at Lowick Bridge, a mile away. The nearest shops, bakery, butchers and village shop are in the village of Greenodd, just three and a half miles away.
The cottage is in easy reach of all the lake district attractions: walking in the mountains; exploring the villages and visiting historic houses such as Hilltop, Beatrix Potter’s house. Seven miles to the south is Ulverston, a pretty market town and home of the Laurel and Hardy Museum and the nearby South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Steam railway lovers can travel the Haverthwaite light railway to Windermere and garden lovers can visit several fine gardens within a forty five minute drive including Holker Hall, Levens and Holehird.

What a lovely place, in the middle of stunning countryside. Even with the mist and rain of these days we've had a wonderful joint birthday celebration and hope to visit again in spring/summer.

We had a wonderful time at the cottage. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to eat lots of our meals outside in the beautiful garden and enjoy the lovely view. The cottage was ideal for us and we were impressed with how well equipped it was, anything we needed we found. Many thanks for the hire of your cottage and hopefully we will have a chance to stay there again.

We just loved the cottage which we booked to coincide with a family birthday. Once we had arrived we didn't use the cars again, there were so many good walks which started from Nibthwaite. In the evening we were torn between watching the sunset from the patio in the lovely gardens and the warm glow of the woodburning stove. No need to go out when everything in the cottage is so cosy - it easily accomodated eight and seemed to encourage evenings of playing silly games after dinner in the excellent and spacious kitchen. If we really had to,
we could have a moonlit walk to the local pub about twenty minutes away. A wonderful spot and we'll be coming back.

Thank you so much for letting us have the use of your wonderful holiday home. I must tell you that we enjoyed every second of our stay. From your garden to the cottage, nothing could be faulted. The location was fantastic and the views spectacular. We will be regular visitors for sure.

"The situation is perfect and the garden is the just the best place to relax with so many different places to sit and enjoy depending on the time of day and where the sun is. The woods are so handy for a lovely walk. The cottage itself is very cosy - warm, comfortable and homely but has all mod cons - dishwasher etc. It's just the place for a family break/holiday and is private without being isolated.............and that's just for starters!" Chris Williams (no relation), Liverpool
"We were very fortunate to spend a fabulous few days at Nibthwaite Grange Cottage in April. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed evenings sitting in the garden, taking in the views and savour the peace and quiet. Situated an easy fifteen minute walk from the nearest pub (great views from garden, good pub food and local ale), the cottage is beautifully cosy, the kitchen / diner perfect for family meals and the super king bed is one of the best I have ever slept on! We found some buggy friendly walks thanks to the info pack and sampled some of the best food and ale in Coniston thanks to the recommendations.
We will definitely be back, in fact we cant wait to book another week later in the summer!"
