Gill Beck is a pretty pink-washed holiday cottage which is located in an exceptionally attractive riverside setting in the heart of Caldbeck, a historic and charming village on the northern fringe of the beautiful Lake District National Park in Cumbria.
Caldbeck is a hidden gem and tucked away from more frequented tourist areas, offering peace and quiet, yet still within easy reach of larger market towns such as Cockermouth and Keswick. The village still remains unspoilt, surrounded by rolling fields with glorious views of the fells beyond.
Walkers and cyclists are in for a real treat with Gill Beck being in such close proximity to the Skiddaw mountain range and forest, the Solway Coast, the Northern Lakes (including Bassenthwaite with its famous ospreys) and Hadrian's Wall. Footpaths take you directly out of Caldbeck to the well-known Howk Gorge and waterfall, which provides the perfect place for relaxing and having a picnic. The Cumbria Way passes straight through the village and two well known long distance cycle routes (the Reivers Route and Coast to Coast) are accessible nearby. The area is rich in wildlife including red squirrels which can be seen in the village and the fell ponies which graze on the Caldbeck Common.
There is something for all ages and energy levels in this lovely area. The village boasts a traditional pub with restaurant, a post office/well stocked village store (with petrol pump), a wool shop, hairdresser and a clogmaker! There are several gift and craft shops, a cosy tearoom and the Watermill Cafe which serves delicious meals. Tennis players will be delighted by the tennis court within the grounds of the village primary school (with honesty box) so don't forget to bring your tennis balls and racquets.
The village's central feature is the large duck pond with pram-friendly paths and resident ducks (who love to be fed). All Caldbeck's amenities are within easy reach on foot from Gill Beck, making it possible to enjoy the whole holiday without the use of a car.

Reviews and Testimonials for Gill Beck
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cottage, so comfortable - a real home from home. We've never stayed anywhere so well equipped, we didn't want for anything. We will be back. The Smithsons. Nottingham.
