Needlepoint is a single storey Victorian cottage, one of several converted from Headon Hall and built from mellow island stone, overlooking Alum Bay, with panoramic views over the Solent, the English Channel, the Dorset coastline and up to Tennyson Downs. It is just a few minutes walk from the beach, ideal for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday by the sea.
On the western tip of the island, Alum Bay is noted for its multi-coloured sand cliffs. Steps or a chairlift take you down to the pebbled beach where you can take a boat trip around the Needles rocks in good weather. Within a short distance of the cottage, there is a pitch and putt green. On the opposite side of the bay is the pleasure park, and the Needles Old Battery affords further breathtaking sea views. Locally, Totland Bay, Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and water sports, and Freshwater Bay are all worth a visit.
The Isle of Wight is an ideal place to enjoy a break at any time of year. It is a beautiful island with unspoilt scenery and a wide range of attractions and activities to suit all ages. Over half the island is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and can be explored on foot, using the extensive and well-maintained network of footpaths. The island offers some fine restaurants and historic houses as well as a variety of festivals and events throughout the year.
Needlepoint Cottage has its own garden to the front and side, with seating and a barbecue and shares several acres, bounded by National Trust land and the bay itself. There is easy access to the Coastal Path and the Downs. The locality is home to rabbits, foxes, badgers and a great variety of birds and there are wild flowers, including orchids, in abundance.
You can sit on the verandah and contemplate the sea in all its moods or watch the boats sailing round the Needles. The sunsets are stunning!
