Balnabodach is a detached 3 bedroom cottage situated on a small hill farm 10 miles south of Inverness city centre and just 10 minutes off the A9. The farm is home to a small herd of Dexter cows and a flock of mainly blackface sheep and offers a haven of peace and tranquillity of the countryside, whilst still being close enough to Inverness to access the variety of restaurants and entertainment.
Loch Bunachton is part of the farm and is a 20 minute walk away from the cottage through the forest, the scenery is spectacular. Our guests can enjoy fly fishing for trout, pike and perch. With forest walks on the doorstep, your dogs can also enjoy safe exercise.
Balnabodach is centrally located making it easy for you to visit the many interesting places the Highlands has to offer. Whether you are looking for a relaxing holiday or an activity break, there is something to suit everyone.
Dunlichity Church and graveyard is about a mile from the cottage. It is set on a very ancient site. It is believed that St Finan preached here. The present church dates from 1758 with repairs and extensions through to 1859. The walls are marked where arrows and swords were sharpened by Jacobites on their way to the Battle of Culloden.
Inverarnie Esker Trail about 3 miles away offers a choice of 3 colour coded walks each of which cover an assortment of terrains. Choose from a stroll through peaceful woodlands or a walk along the crest of the hills for stunning views. Start point on the B851 near Inverarnie
Loch Ruthven Nature Reserve (RSPB) - Just off the B851 at Croachy, offers a variety of wildlife, birds, and plants for the nature enthusiast.
Inverness is a vibrant city with plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs with Scottish music, cinemas, theatre, sports centre, swimming pool, bowling alley, boat trips, and a newly refurbished Victorian Market.
Take a trip to Aviemore (30 miles) and the Cairngorm Mountains, where a funicular railway will take you high up the mountain for some stunning views.
Enjoy a drive through breath-taking scenery to Fort Augustus; try to spot famous Nessie or visit ancient Urquhart Castle, one of Scotland's most iconic!
Culloden Battle Field where the 1745 Jacobite Rising came to a tragic end is less than 10 miles away. There is a Visitor Centre, shop and café.
There are several golf courses in Inverness and the surrounding area. Fairways Driving Range on the outskirts of Inverness has a twenty bay floodlit driving range plus practice pitching and bunker area.
Indoor Inverness Raceway is also at Fairways Business Park, something to do on a rainy day.
If you simply wish to relax, Balnabodach offers you silence broken only by the sounds of birds and animals. Of a daytime, you can marvel at the beautiful scenery and of a night, enjoy star gazing with little light pollution to spoil the view. A large variety of wildlife may be spotted from the cottage including up to three species of deer, hares, rabbit, buzzard, pheasant, the occasional eagle and osprey, as well as all the more common birds.
