Captains House is in an unrivaled prominent position overlooking The 'Waterfront Green', Hythe Pier and facing Southampton Water. It is situated centrally within the conservation area of Old Hythe and Captains House commands superb views from the sitting room and master bedroom windows where you can watch the cruise liners and shipping pass by.
Hythe, "Where the Forest meets the Sea" is perfectly positioned and is ideal for both water lovers and those who want to enjoy the ancient forest with its open heath land and resident New Forest ponies, donkeys and cattle. It is steeped in maritime history and Hythe Pier boasts of having the oldest working electric pier train in the world. You can not visit Hythe without taking a ride on the train to the pier head where you can enjoy wonderful views or take a short ferry trip passing on your way to Southampton 'Dock Head' where the famous QM2 berths whilst at home.
The village offers a mix of Georgian, Victorian and modern architecture and has many shops to browse. It has a small Waitrose and a variety of local inns and restaurants within the village and marina offering a wide variety of foods to suit most tastes. A free of charge public slipway is available for launching dinghies and powerboats and there is short term boat storage available from Hythe Marina.
The New Forest provides endless walking opportunities which are just three miles away. There are numerous interesting places to visit such as Exbury Gardens, with its train ride through the Rhododendrons gardens and Beaulieu Palace, with the renowned Motor Museum - both within fifteen minutes drive.
Whilst Hythe has a small shingle shore, there are two separate sandy/shingle beaches which are suitable for swimming and sail boarding approximately six miles away. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy including horse riding (a perfect way to explore the beautiful forest), golf, rock climbing, indoor swimming/sauna, track cycling and also dry skiing, all available locally.
Power Rib Boat lessons may be taken at the Marina which is just a short stroll away and bicycle hire is available within the village. Hythe also has an open air market every Tuesday where you can stock up on local provisions. The Hythe ferry leaves every thirty minutes throughout the day and will take you to Southampton. The Isle of Wight is approximately thirty minutes by Hydrofoil or a sixty minute Car Ferry trip and ferries depart hourly from Southampton.
For those who want to venture a little further afield, the countryside towns of Lyndhurst and Lymington are just ten to twelve miles away. The City of Winchester is thirty five minutes, Sailsbury with its beautiful cathedral is forty minutes and the fine sandy beaches of Bournemouth are under an hours drive away.

Accommodation comprises:
Open plan hallway which is furnished with a Victorian hall table, opening into both the sitting room and dining room. A door leads to the family ground floor bathroom and a winding staircase with open spindles, rises to the first floor.
Sitting Room which offers uninterrupted views over Southampton Water. This charming room has two leather sofas comfortably seating six guests, a television with free serve multi-channels, a DVD and video player. A decorative Victorian fireplace with marble hearth centers the room, creating a lovely atmosphere.
Dining Room with Victorian octagonal oak dining table and chairs seating six guests. This room offers views of both the rear gardens and Southampton Water and a door leads to the family ground floor bathroom/cloakroom.
Fully fitted kitchen with dark slate floor and contemporary modern Maple kitchen units. This room is equipped with integral larder fridge, built in combination microwave and grill, integral freezer, ceramic halogen electric hob with extractor over, double oven with grill beneath, washing machine with built-in dryer and dishwasher. A stable door leads to the rear garden.
Ground Floor twin bedroom with two single 2’6” beds, fitted wardrobe and patio door which leads to the rear south facing garden.
Family Bathroom and Landing WC - The white bathroom has a modern bath with grips, basin, toilet and towel rail. Stairs from Hall to first floor landing with separate WC.
Master Bedroom & En-Suite which again has a lovely outlook over Southampton Water. There is a chrome 5’ 0” king size double bed complete with duvet and pillows, a fitted wardrobe, a television with local channels and a door which leads to a separate en-suit complete with thermostatic shower, basin and toilet.
Bedroom two is also en-suite and has two 3’ 0” single beds complete with duvets and pillows, fitted wardrobe and fitted suitcase cupboard. A door leads to a separate en-suit comprising of thermostatic shower and basin. (toilet on landing).
Outside: An attractive railed front garden leads to Prospect Place and The Green with the shingle waterfront to Southampton Water. The south facing lower rear garden is split over two levels with a paved terrace, raised flower beds and a cast iron table with four chairs. Rising by three steps the upper garden comprises of a paved courtyard garden with flower beds and a potted garden.
Parking: There is parking for two cars. A single brick garage is enclosed within the rear gardens and is accessed via a Doctors Surgery car park to the rear of Captains House. There is an additional single parking space in front of the garage door. Please note: Although no other parking is allowed within the doctor's surgery car park there is a public car park for extra vehicles/boats etc. within a 100 meters walk. The owners provide two resident/visitors car parking clocks for use during your stay. These allow parking in the adjacent carpark together with most other New Forest District Council car parks.
Additional information: All electric and Gas charges are included within the letting charges. Heating/Hot Water is programmed 24 hrs via guest adjustable thermostats. Beds are made up for your arrival and linen costs are inclusive. Each guest is provided with a hand and bath towel. Kitchen tea towels, washing/dishwasher powders etc are provided. A childs clip-on high chair, adjustable stair gate and cot, without linen, may be provided upon request at no extra charge. The property is Non-smoking with the exception of the Garden. No pets with the exception of guide dogs. There is a ground floor bedroom and bathroom and a ramp can be provided, possibly making this holiday cottage suitable for some people with limited mobility. Please discuss your personal requirements with the owner to ensure it meets your person needs.
