The Old Farmhouse at Honeymead sleeps ten guests in five bedrooms and offers luxury holiday accommodation ideally located within the Exmoor National Park.
Honeymead is a one thousand acre estate which has been owned by the Waley-Cohen family since the early part of the last century. As well as a lovely large garden, the Old Farmhouse affords extensive views over the estate and beyond. Guests are able to walk over the estate and link up with public footpaths along the River Barle as it meanders its way from Simonsbath towards Landacre Bridge and Withypool.
The Old Farmhouse dates back some two hundred years and was totally modernised in 2010-11 to offer luxury holiday accommodation for up to ten guests.
Exmoor National Park is an expansive area of spectacular natural beauty at any time of the year, with a wide range of attractions and activities to participate in for all ages and tastes. Throughout the year there are special events such as the Honeymead Classical Music Festival in April, the Golden Horseshoe Ride in May, a wide range of local shows especially in August and the Two Moors Classical Music Festival in late October.
The area offers many fine restaurants and traditional pubs serving excellent locally sourced food within a few miles of The Old Farmhouse. Horse riding and walking on Exmoor are readily available, with fantastic opportunities for all levels. Walking on the private estate is also permitted where you can enjoy both easy walks and more hilly ones with streams to cross where you will need wellington boots. The estate is a working farm and guests will need to observe the Country Code, including sensible control of children and dogs.
On Honeymead Estate itself, is the Iron Age Fort Cow Castle providing lovely views up and down the River Barle, whilst just towards Simonsbath is the abandoned mine and picturesque cottage ruins of Wheal Eliza.
Hunting and game shooting on Exmoor is a major local recreation and fishing on Exmoor on the River Barle (when in season), can be arranged in Simonsbath at the Exmoor Forest Inn. The permit entitles guests to fish on Honeymead Estate and there is also fishing, along with water-sports at Wimbleball Lake near the village of Dulverton.
