Maxwelton is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing holiday and offers a high standard of accommodation enhanced by breathtaking sea views. It can accommodate parties of up to six guests or larger groups of seven to eight if Bracken (one bed apartment) on the ground floor is also rented at the same time.
Located in the traditional Exmoor village of Porlock, in West Somerset, this stunningly unspoilt part of England has much to offer in terms of wildlife, history, outstandingly beautiful and diverse landscapes.
Porlock and Porlock Weir offer a great selection of fine restaurants, country pubs and cafes where you can enjoy delicious cream teas, seafood specialities, along with traditional local fayre. Porlock has an assortment of interesting shops, church, museums and a very helpful tourist information centre where you can find all the information you need to help you plan your holiday.
The Exmoor National Park has so much to offer and is a great location for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities or wildlife, with Exmoor being home to the Red Deer and of course, the Exmoor pony. Porlock is surrounded by pretty little villages that are steeped in history. Its landscape is diverse with heather clad moorlands, rivers and lakes, sparkling streams, ancient woodlands, beaches, archaeological sites and dramatic coastline.
There are plenty of footpaths, cycling routes and bridleways within the Exmoor National Park providing the perfect location from which to enjoy activities such as nature and bird watching, walking, mountain biking, cycling, hiking, horse riding, sailing, fishing or a leisurely drive through the country lanes.
Porlock Weir is just two miles from Porlock village and is a charming unspoilt harbour and lovely location to spend an evening at the pub or restaurant. There are a few shops, an Aquarium and the Boat Shed Museum.
Steeped in history, the picturesque village of Dunster is only eight miles away. Its castle dates back to Norman times and today it hosts many events throughout the year. Another National Trust property within the village is an 18th century restored watermill and there are at least two hundred listed buildings which all add to its charm.
A spectacular drive from Porlock takes you a little further afield to Lynmouth (ten miles) and Lynton (twelve miles) which are linked by a water powered cliff railway. Here you will find plenty of places to eat, and Lymouth has a putting green, tennis court and quaint fisherman's cottages.

Maxwelton offers first floor holiday accommodation for up to six guests (plus a travel cot if required). As mentioned above, Bracken which is the downstairs of the property is also available for rent and can accommodate two further guests (see owners website for full details on Bracken).
Accommodation within Maxwelton comprises:-
Bedroom one with four poster double bed, sea views, wardrobe, dressing table, bedside drawers and en-suite toilet/wash basin.
Bedroom two with super king bed, garden view, wardrobe, dressing table and bedside drawers.
Bedroom three is a twin bedded room with two single beds which can be combined to make a super king bed on request. There is also under bed drawers, wardrobe and bedside drawers.
Large lounge/dining room with log burning stove, piano, Freeview television/DVD player, comfortable leather lounge furniture and dining table seating six. This room affords stunning views of both the sea and garden and there are patio doors leading out to the patio, BBQ area and garden.
Fitted Kitchen with Rayburn (oil fired), electric cooker, breakfast bar seating two, microwave, plenty of work surfaces and more of those garden and sea views!
Lobby (immediately off kitchen) containing washing machine, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment and access to patio/garden.
Bathroom with bath, shower, WC and washhand basin.
Additional Toilet with wash basin located at bottom of the stairs.
Outside: There is a large private enclosed garden with secluded patio which is a real sun trap with seating for six and barbeque. There is also an additional small patio at the top of the garden with stunning views over Porlock Bay/Hurlestone Point. Off road car parking for two cars directly in front of the property.
Additional information: Access to Maxwelton is via the front door adjacent to the car parking space in front of the house. There is a toilet downstairs, but the living accommodation is upstairs, from which one accesses the private patio and garden. A welcome pack, bed linen and towels are included in the price. Maxwelton is heated by oil fired central heating and electricity and heating oil are included in the price. Travel cot, stair gate and highchair available if requested at the time of booking (bed linen for the cot will not be provided and visitors must bring their own). Maxwelton and Bracken Annexe operate a "No Smoking" Policy and no dogs or other animals are allowed unless by prior arrangement.

Maxwelton - what a fabulous cottage, one of the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. From the start of this holiday the lovely cake and other little touches, the beautiful clean cottage, it was just wonderful. The weather was just brilliant, what a real bonus. Possibly the best accommodation we have had the fortune to stay in. We would love to have had more time here to explore the area. Great views from the kitchen and lounge. A pleasure to come back to each night and situated next to the pub which meant we didn’t have to go far for our entertainment. What a lovely base for a last minute holiday. The house is beautifully presented and equipped and the garden very well done. A credit to you and your housekeepers and bodes well for future lettings. We have relaxed well exploring and eating our way around Exmoor and the village. A treat to travel by steam pulled by Tornado. The carnival was also a great start

A very enjoyable stay - Maxwelton is very comfortable and well equipped. We took the woodland walk to Porlock Weir. Dunster Castle and Dunster were lovely, the shops and tea rooms were so noce we ran out of time to actually go in the castle. Hopefully we will return and complete the castle. Lynton was also a favourite place to walk around with nice shops and cafe bars. We ewnt on the cliff lift and then took a short drive to Watersmeet which was beautiful.
