Located in farmland on the edge of the Pevensey Levels near the ancient market town of Hailsham in East Sussex, yet only seven miles from the sea, Little Marshfoot is within easy distance of the historic towns of Eastbourne, Lewes, Brighton, Hastings, and Royal Tunbridge Wells. Further afield the historic towns of Chichester, Arundel, Winchelsea and Rye are easily accessible and London is only one and a half hours away by train. The really adventurous may like to take a day trip to Dieppe in northern France from Newhaven.

The accommodation is situated at the foot of the Pevensey Levels, just a mile from the market town of Hailsham, which offers a full selection of shops. There is also a good leisure centre offering a full range of facilities including a swimming pool complete with flume and fitness centre and an Art Deco cinema which screens all the latest films.

The Pevensey Levels are 3500 hectares in size (designated Site of Special Scientific Interest), and have been declared a wetland of international importance in the UK with part being a designated Nature Reserve and a haven to wildlife.

Here you will find twenty one out of the UK’s twenty eight species of dragonfly, various rare beetles and molluscs, the Fen Raft Spider, indigenous species of flowering water plants and numerous birds including Heron, Reed Warblers, Skylarks, Grebe, Lapwings, Snipe, the Cuckoo, Owls and Kingfishers to name just a few.

Obviously the Levels offer tremendous opportunities for bird watchers, walkers and also cyclists with a number of lanes and tracks which cross the Levels, offerering safe and quiet cycling. For those who would like a guided cycle tour or walk this can be arranged at a reasonable cost. Locally there are also numerous tearooms and pubs which offer excellent food and ale.

The village of Pevensey with its Norman castle and church is just five miles distant, and Herstmonceux village and castle are four miles. Other attractions within easy reach include the towns of Battle (7 miles), Eastbourne (9 miles), Hastings (15 miles), Brighton (20 miles), Lewes (16 miles) and Tunbridge Wells (20 miles). For those who want to travel a little further, the port of Newhaven is fifteen miles distant and from here in the summer months a high speed catamaran offers a two hour trip to Dieppe.

With so much to see and do, this is not only the perfect place for exploring this lovely area but it is also a wonderful retreat for those who want to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
