Enjoy the peace and total seclusion offered by this charming 5-star holiday cottage which is set amidst thirty acres of lawns, streams, woodland and lakes in the High Weald of Sussex and on the borders of the South Downs National Park.
The completely renovated 19th Century, two bedroom cottage retains many of its original features including open fires and timber-clad walls while offering the highest standards of comfort you’d expect from a top-of-the-range destination.
And once here, there are any number of things to do. We’re next door to Roger Daltrey’s (of The Who) trout fishery where day tickets are available. Thirty-five minutes away is the world-famous Pantiles of Royal Tunbridge Wells where you can eat, drink and shop to your heart’s content. Thirty minutes in the opposite direction is the opera house at Glyndebourne while a sharp turn to the left will take you the site of the Battle of Hastings and the abbey built by William the Conquerer. But if you don’t fancy travelling far, then why not visit the home of Rudyard Kipling that is less than five minutes away from the cottage. The list goes on and on.
This is fabulous walking country. The South Downs National Park and The High Weald offer stunning views across some of the most beautiful parts of England and they are right on our doorstep. Several of the great gardens of England are close at hand, including Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Penshurst Place, all of them less than twenty minutes drive from here. Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn is about forty five minutes away while Leeds Castle, often described as the most beautiful in England is less than an hour down the Maidstone road.

Beautiful cottage and grounds; a real home from home. We have had a wonderful stay.

Great cottage****, beautiful garden ...Its our first time in the UK. Sussex is lovely. Leeds Castle was nice although not so big as you would expect from the pictures. We did some nice shopping in Royal Tunbridge Wells. Nice town to stroll through. Thanks, Patrick, the 'landlord' for making us feel very much at home. P.S. A recommendation to foreigners: If you are interested in castles etc, get a National Trust membership. There are special ones for foreigners for approx. £20. It is a lot cheaper than paying each attraction individually.

Gorgeous cottage with lots of personal touches giving it a homely feel. The grounds were wonderful to wonder in and explore and we enjoyed watching the wildlife around the ponds. We visited many of the picturesque towns and villages giving us a real taste of Sussex and Kent. We would strongly recommend Rye for a visit and Battle was a great outing. Quick and easy access to London allows a successful day trip and enough time to vist most of the important sites. Will recommend to other friends and hope to return in the future. Thank you.

We've spent the most wonderful time at Blackdown Cottage. A superbly renovated cottage offering you plenty of privacy in a most tasteful setting. Courteous hosts, great amenities, a lovely garden, exquisite curtains and bedding make for a wonderful stay. If a sixth star where available, we'd add it wholeheartedly.'

Had a fabulous week. Visited Groombridge Place and gardens, 35 minutes away. Well worth seeing (Pride and Prejudice was filmed there). Also, if you have kids, Drusillas Zoo is great. The weather has been perfect and the cottage a joy to be in. Haven't slept so well in ages.
