Spring Cottage is located less than a mile from the sea on the Jurassic Coast mid way between Weymouth and the bustling market town of Bridport. Dorchester and Lyme Regis, with a wealth of history, on your doorstep you will be surrounded by places of interest to visit and explore and its great for the kids.
Abbotsbury itself is famous for three key attractions the Tropical Gardens, Swannery and Childrens’ farm with its indoor play area that ensures there is something to do for the family if the weather is not too kind.
The cottage is walking distance to these three attractions as well as the World famous Chesil Beach, where you can try your hand at mackerel fishing, or just laze in the sunshine.
The village has a mixture of independent shops, art galleries, six tea rooms, two pubs and the all important corner store, where you can by all the essentials. The village farm shop also has locally reared meat and specialty cheeses.
You have the option to park the car for the duration of your stay, as all you need is just a walk away.
Over the course of the summer many performances take place in and around the area from music to art - you will find something to meet all tastes. If you are feeling more adventurous you can take a trip to Bridport with its restaurants, music and arts venues. Here you will also find larger supermarkets, a leisure centre, golf club and the Palmers Brewery, which is well worth a tour to see how the local beer is made.
Slightly further afield is the historic resort of Lyme Regis, where you can go fossil hunting, explore the beach or sample fine dining at Hix beach restaurant overlooking the sea.
To the east you will find Dorchester with its historic town centre, museums and train station that runs directly to London.
Finally if you are looking for something more lively Weymouth is only seven miles away. Here you will find a cinema complex, Sealife Centre and long sandy beaches; it also has more nightlife. There is a vast array of water sports on offer, so you could try the Olympic facilities before the competitors in 2012. |
