Secret Valley is just as the name suggests, difficult at first to find, but very well worth the map and Satnav exercise – see below. It’s tranquil, restful and picturesque, although the initial welcoming committee of very friendly dogs (who then disperse to pursue each other and have their own fun) can be a bit rowdy! Spacious, well thought out and equipped accommodation, especially the Lodge, with great facilities for the active or sloths like me who enjoy a game of snooker or a doze in the hot tub/Jacuzzi. Peter and Veronica are generous hosts , allowing you to chill out, but available for a chat, or in my case a game of snooker when passing. Our grown up children and friends made the most of the heated swimming pool, and with a pub in walking distance ( 30 mins hike and best done during the day), we were all able to relax. TIP: take an ordinance survey map, the satnav may not find it, also it is only 10 minutes from either Newton Abbot with a choice of supermarkets where you can stock up or Ashburton with a variety of shops - do visit their brilliant Fish Deli. Also worth looking at is the Dartington College estate with beautiful gardens, a pub, cafe and small cinema. This was our second stay within 18 months and no doubt we will be going again.
