The Barton is a small family run farm which is located on the edge of the small hamlet of Poughill, in the heart of Mid-Devon countryside which is 'tourist free'.
The land is grazed by a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle and a few friendly sheep along with one or two pigs and chickens. Home reared meat is normally available on the farm along with other local suppliers produce.
The Barton is home to two truly unique spacious holiday cottages, The Barton Granary (sleeping up to eight guests) and Brimbles (sleeping up to ten), both which have been converted from Grade II Listed barns to provide comfortably furnished and well-equipped accommodation.
Guests have the added benefit of the use of a small indoor heated swimming pool which is available all year round.
Poughill makes an ideal base for exploring Devon and its many places of interest and attractions. It is halfway between Exmoor and Dartmoor and halfway between both the North and South coasts! Golf, riding and fishing are all within easy reach and several National Trust properties and other attractions are closeby.
Many guests return time and again to enjoy the peace and tranquility, the space and dark night skies and the opportunity to relax amongst beautiful countryside.

Brimbles was formerly the dairy and shippen and is situated at the entrance of the farm. The owners have gone to great lengths to retain its original features wherever possible and accommodation comprises:
Ground floor:
Spacious and well equipped kitchen/diner with electric range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, CD player and door leading to the shared pool-room.
Bedroom one with double bed and ensuite shower room with WC, shower and wash basin.
Bedroom two with twin beds.
Bedroom three with twin beds.
Bathroom containing bath with shower over, wash basin and WC.
First floor:
Huge sitting room with lovely wood burning stove, open beamed ceiling, television (with Digibox), DVD player and CD player.
Television/play room with television (Digibox), video, DVD player and playstation2.
Bedroom four with double bed and ensuite shower room with WC, shower and wash basin.
Bedroom five with bunk beds.
Bathroom containing bath with shower over, WC and wash basin.
Outside: There is a courtyard with picnic table and barbecue, access to the utility room with washing machine and tumble drier, small fenced garden at the rear of the property with bench and loungers.
Swimming pool: Guests have the use of a heated indoor swimming pool (available from 10am to 7pm daily) which is accessed from a door in the kitchen and shared with the owners and guests of their second holiday cottage.
Additional information: Electricity, heating, towels (not beach towels), bath robes and bed linen are provided. Please note that towels and bath robes are not provided for short breaks unless requested at a small additional charge. This is a no smoking property and unfortunately pets can not be accepted. Short Breaks are available for a minimum of three nights outside peak periods. Free Wi-fi available at The Farmhouse by arrangement. There is parking for up to four cars.

Great Cottage - what a wonderful time we had. The cottage is so well equipped with everything for children & adults. The swimming pool was a great hit on the rainy days and a real treat to be able to just walk from the kitchen! The children loved the playroom, toys and videos - they were very energetic running around and slept well.
