Pear Tree Farm Barn - Self catering holiday barn in Rowthorne, Nr Chesterfield & Peak District, Derbyshire, England - Sleeps 4
Pear Tree Farm Barn is situated just a fifteen minutes leisurely stroll from the historic National Trust Property, Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire and is just a fifteen minute drive from the Peak District National Park. It is located in the conservation village of Rowthorne and offers first class, five star holiday accommodation, for up to four guests, in a tranquil and picturesque setting. The barn is set to the side of Pear Tree Farm House, a grade II listed building and overlooks beautiful rolling countryside where horses graze with views over Chesterfield from the garden.
Rowthorne Village is conveniently located just a five minute drive from the M1 (junction 29) and is an ideal location for a relaxing care-free break at anytime of the year. It is almost like being in another world, set in the heart of beautiful Derbyshire countryside with only ten houses (including farms) scattered throughout the village.
Pear Tree Farm itself was once a working farm until its outbuildings fell into disrepair. The buildings were then sold as five separate units and Pear Tree Barn is the last one to be lovingly restored to provide holiday accommodation of a very high standard. It is the only holiday accommodation available in the Village and offers a wonderful mix of both original character and five star facilities.
The Barn is set on a quite narrow road which is generally very quiet. The hedgerows and local woodland are full of wild flowers and wildlife and the surrounding area is ideal for those who enjoy nature, walking, cycling or who simply want to relax. If you are a keen photographer, there are some spectacular shots to be taken locally and excellent views.
You could easily spend a week in the Village without having to use your car. Within fifteen minutes gentle walk there is the historic Hardwick Estate with its 500 acres of ancient woodland, rich in wildlife and providing fishing lakes (day tickets available at certain times of the year) and miles of wonderful walking (The Estate grounds are open all year - The Hall is open at selected times). Here you can also enjoy the walled courtyards that enclose the herbaceous borders, the herb garden and the orchard. The Estate is home to Stainsby Mill, a fully functioning water powered mill where you can often see the mill in action on one of its many working days and even treat yourself to some of the freshly milled flour to make your own bread. There is also Hardwick Stone Centre, a new exhibition centre providing an insight into the work of the masons who built Hardwick New Hall.
If you enjoy walking or cycling there are miles of paths and trails around the Estate which are a delight at any time of the year. If you have a bike you are welcome to bring it with you – or alternatively you can hire one (advance booking required) from the barn’s owner who lives next door. In addition to the walks and trails around the Estate there are the Rowthorne and Pleasley trails which in turn link into other routes providing miles and miles of beautiful cycling and walking.
There are many interesting places to visit and things to do locally during your stay including: The attractive market town of Bolsover with its historic castle (English Heritage owned and run) and ; The historic market town of Chesterfield with its excellent range of shops; Mansfield, another great market town; Canal boat trips; Golf at Tapton Golf Course and English Heritage ruins at Sutton Scarsdale Hall.
A little further a field (within one hour drive) you will find: The Peak District, (including Chatsworth House and Alton Towers); The National Trust property Clumber Park at Worksop; The Heights of Abraham where you can discover underground caverns; Gulliver's Kingdom where you imagination can run free and the cities of Derby and Sheffield.

Reviews and Testimonials for Pear Tree Farm Barn
“The shame was that we couldn’t stay for longer!! Exceptional self catering accommodation we will definitely be back. This is an excellent base for walking holidays. As previous people have said it is the attention to detail that really impresses. I can usually find fault somewhere but not this time!”

The thoughtful touches of the Christmas decorations and baubles made everything very magical (especially as we are used to hot Christmases! We even ha snow – wow! The history of the area is amazing. Looking forward to coming back again someday to explore some more and of course to stay here!

This is a wonderful spot, and Mel is a wonderful host! We so much enjoyed our week in the barn – it’s the loveliest, most comfortable and welcoming accommodation imaginable. So much thought and care has gone into making this a superb home away from home. Thank you

This is a stunning barn with fantastic facilities. Truly worthy of its five star rating. The best self catering cottage we have ever stayed in. It looked even better than the photographs on the internet.
Lovely cycling and walking routes.
