The quintessential English town of Stow-on-the-Wold is located on the Roman Fosse Way, and has a long history which is reported to date back to a prehistoric fortified settlement on top of a hill. Stow has been a very popular holiday destination for both English and International visitors for many years, providing easy access to the rest of the Cotswolds. A very attractive place to stay, the town is famous for its Market Square, around which the town grew.
The square is both impressive and large with an elegant collection of traditional Cotswolds buildings which house restaurants, welcoming pubs, little boutiques, coffee shops and shops to stock up on provisions such as a butchers, bakers, delecatessen, wine shop, Co-op grocery store and even an organic shop!
The area is also perfect for those who enjoy walking with the Cotswold, Donnington and Monarch Way all close by.
For those who want to venture a little further afield, there are plenty of places to visit and attractions to enjoy including: Blenheim Palace, the home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill; Broadway Tower, one of England's outstanding viewpoints; Gloucester Warwickshire Steam Railway, where you can take a steam train along a part of the former Great Western Railway between Toddington and Cheltenham; Cotswold Farm Park, “Home of Rare Breed Conservation” and plenty of National Trust homes and gardens to visit including Chedworth Roman Villa, Lodge Park, Hailes Abbley and the Sherborne Estate.
