Formerly a Victorian workers terraced cottage, Sawmills Cottage has been completely refurbished to a very high standard to provide a cosy romantic getaway for couples.
The owners offer full flexibility with short break bookings welcome at any time of the year - two nights or more, starting on any day.
Located just under two miles from the eclectic Cotswold town of Stroud (with one of the best weekly Farmer’s markets in the country on a Saturday morning), There is a pub and convenience store within a few minutes walk. It has easy access to the M4/M5 and the mainline railway into London. Centrally located Sawmills Cottage provides an ideal touring base for visiting Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester, Bath, Tetbury, Bristol, Stratford upon Avon and Oxford, and is within easy reach of Forest of Dean and further into South Wales.
From Sawmills Cottage it is just a ten minute drive up to the Commons with some of the most beautiful National Trust managed common land in the country, with outstanding and far reaching views over the Cotswolds and towards the Severn Estuary and Wales beyond. Horses and cattle can be seen roaming freely across the Commons, and the grassland slopes are home to wildflower species (including thirteen species of orchid) and rare butterfly. The Commons villages of Minchinhampton, Box and Amberley provide local award winning combinations of fine dining and real ale pubs and there are more restaurants and inns dotted across the Commons. Winstone's Ice Cream Factory Shop near The Bear at Rodborough provides a convenient place to stop for a refreshing treat on a hot summer's day whilst taking in the wonderful views over the Golden Valley.
This is an ideal base for visiting the many attractions throughout the region including: Bath, a designated World Heritage Site and one of Britain's most beautiful and historically significant cities; The Regency Spa town of Cheltenham, a prominent venue for art/literature/music festivals; Gloucester with its historic Cathedral featured in the films of J K Rowling's first Harry Potter books; Oxford , home to one of the most prestigious Universities in the World and Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, to name just a few. There are a wealth of cultural activities and places to visit including the National Westonbirt Arboretum and Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. There are also diverse shopping opportunities, from specialist boutiques and designer outlet to world class antiques.

Access by Public Transport: Sawmills Cottage is 1.8 miles from Stroud Railway station, which is on the mainline into London Paddington - one hour 35 minutes journey time. Local buses run from Stroud to within a two minute walk of Sawmills Cottage. The owner's can recommend a local taxi company if required.
