Port House is located within the village of Brimscombe in the Golden valley and surrounded by England's largest officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This former canal workers Inn dates back to the 1850's and provides spacious holiday accommodation for up to seven guests in three bedrooms (with three luxurious bathrooms). It is conveniently situated by local amenities and there is easy access to main driving routes and the mainline rail link into London.
This is the perfect place for extended family gatherings (additional bedroom, bathroom and sofabed also available) and short break bookings are very welcome throughout the year, two nights or more, starting on any day.
Port House is a five minute drive (or a healthy walk uphill!) to the Commons with some of the most beautiful National Trust managed common land in the country, with outstanding and far reaching views over the Cotswolds and towards the Severn Estuary and Wales beyond. Horses and cattle can be seen roaming freely across the Commons, and the grassland slopes are home to wildflower species (including thirteen species of orchid) and rare butterfly. The Commons villages of Minchinhampton, Box and Amberley provide local award winning combinations of fine dining and real ale pubs and there are more restaurants and inns dotted across the Commons. Winstone's Ice Cream Factory Shop near The Bear at Rodborough provides a convenient place to stop for a refreshing treat on a hot summer's day whilst taking in the wonderful views over the Golden Valley.
The eclectic town of Stroud is just two miles away along the canal - don't miss the weekly Farmer's market on a Saturday morning - one of the best in the country!
The Cotswolds has many popular attractions but here are a few of the more unique experiences that can be enjoyed from just across the road, up to within a thirty minute drive: local canal restoration, history in the making (www.cotswoldcanalsproject.org/brimscombe); Bibury's Arlington Row, its origins dating from 1380, found in 'the most beautiful village in the Cotswolds' William Morris; take a trial flight in a glider, an adventurous way to take in the stunning local views; Hetty Pegler's Tump, part of the Cotswold's Neolithic history; the Severn Bore, a 'spectacular natural phenomena' and so much more.
Port House provides a perfect base for visits throughout the region including the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham, and historic Gloucester, Cirencester, Oxford, Bristol and Stratford-upon-Avon, to name just a few. There are a wealth of places to visit and cultural activities, including the National Westonbirt Arboretum and Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, along with diverse shopping opportunities, from specialist boutiques and designer outlet to world class antiques.
