Barn Cottage - Self catering holiday cottage in Bibury, Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds, England - Sleeps 2
Barn Cottage sleeps two and is a charming retreat for couples, set in the extensive grounds of Barn House in the Bibury Conservation Area within the Cotswolds. Ideally located, the cottage has direct access from the garden into Gassons Field where there is a network of footpaths and bridleways that criss-cross this beautiful part of the Cotswolds and the Coln Valley.
Bibury is one of the Cotswolds most picturesque villages that sits on the River Coln and is a delight to stroll around of an evening. Once described as 'the most beautiful village in England' by William Morris, it is an ideal location for a relaxing country break with plenty of attractions within easy reach.
The twin villages of Arlington and Bibury (separated by the river) offer a tea room, pub, shop/post office and two excellent hotels with restaurants. The villages are famed for the Trout Farm and the much photographed Arlington Row cottages which are located a short walk along the lane from Barn Cottage.
Both villages had their own water mills which can still be seen today. Arlington Mill, which dates back to the 17th Century, is the most dominant and is situated on the road by the Trout Farm. Bibury Mill is just a short walk from the grounds of the Bibury Court Hotel, along the river banks.
The historic market town of Cirencester (Roman Corinium) is a ten minute drive by car or bus and the smaller delightful towns of Tetbury and Burford are twenty minutes. Also within easy reach are National Trust homes and gardens and historic places such as Bath, Cheltenham, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon. The area also hosts a number of major events including Badmington, Cheltenham Gold Cup Week, the Royal International Air Tattoo and the Blenheim and Gatcombe Horse Trials.
