Trengove Farm with its listed farmhouse and buildings is surrounded by open fields and is ideally positioned between the old tin mining village of Illogan and the harbour side village of Portreath. Trengove is a working farm and retains all the charm of a bygone era whilst enjoying all the amenities of today.
The house, dates back to the early 1600’s and is full of character, with beautiful stained-glass windows, huge granite fireplaces, original staircases and beamed ceilings. It was also the home of a notorious 19th century smuggler, William Burgess, who was reputed to be the illegitimate son of Francis Bassett, Lord Dedunstanville of the Tehidy Estate.
Much of the charm and interest of the main building exists within the farm buildings that surround the farmhouse. These have been sympathetically renovated with extensive use of natural materials and are tastefully furnished to a high standard. The Roundhouse is a particularly interesting restoration of an old farm building and is a fine example of the care and attention to detail that has been invested in retaining the essential Cornish character of the buildings.
The farm is ideally situated to take advantage of both the coast and countryside, a choice of footpaths from the farm, either through a pleasant wooded valley or across open fields, leads down to Portreath with its sandy beach, or to some of the most spectacular Cliffside scenery in the country. Situated near to the entrance of the farm is Tehidy Country Park, a tranquil 250 acre site of woodland, lakes, footpaths and cycle trails as well as an impressive golf course.
The proximity of the A30 trunk road makes other areas and towns easily accessible. St. Ives and Falmouth are 25 minutes drive, The Lizard, Padstow and the renowned Eden Project are about 50 minutes, while the county town of Truro with its cathedral and high street shops is but twenty minutes away. Indoor swimming, go-karting, bowling and other games are available locally. Illogan and Portreath have a selection of shops, pubs, and restaurants. The closest supermarket is just two miles away.
