Rylands Cottage dates back to 1750 and is positioned in a rural location half a mile from the picturesque award-winning village of Altarnun. It offers the perfect retreat for those who are seeking peace and tranquility.
Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with the stunning North Cornwall coast to one side and the Moors to the other it’s the perfect location to explore the many delights that Cornwall and Devon have to offer.
The village of Altarnun has a Post Office with general store, an excellent butchers shop and a famous church known as the Cathedral on the Moor. Within less than a mile walk in either direction you have two traditional local pubs serving excellent meals, real ale, and cider - you can leave your car at the cottage and sample the local delights!
Rylands is the ideal base for walking where you can explore the mystical Bodmin Moor including spectacular Roughtor and Cornwall’s highest peak Brown Willy. Visit Du Maurier’s infamous Jamaica Inn, see Dozmary Pool where King Arthur’s sword excalibur rose. Just ten miles from the cottage is the spectacular Cornwall Coastal Path so don't forget to bring your walking boots!
The ancient capital of Cornwall, Launceston is the nearest town. It is dubbed the gateway to Cornwall and is a lovely town with its old narrow streets, Norman Castle and a Steam Railway. It has usual facilities plus a leisure centre and excellent 18-hole golf course.
North Cornwall’s dramatic rugged coastline equals any in the world. Stunning beaches, excellent surfing, cliff top walks, sunbathing and some of the most beautiful fishing villages in the Southwest. The delights of Padstow, Port Isaac, Tintagel, Boscastle, and Rock are all a short drive away. Why not come out of season and walk on virtually deserted sandy beaches and then come home and relax in front of a lovely log fire?
For those who enjoy fishing, don't forget your rod as there is trout fishing just 200 meters away. There is also horse riding nearby and you can cycle the famous Camel Trail. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a 30 minute drive and there is Golf and a children’s leisure park at Trethorne nearby.
