This delightful 18th century holiday cottage has been tastefully refurbished to allow you every comfort during your stay. A good sized sitting room with original beams and gas coal effect stove to keep you warm, looks out on to the tiny parterre front garden and hedgerows opposite.
Perfectly located for walkers, people attending the Daphne du Maurier Festival and the Fowey Regatta, this cottage is located just one mile from Fowey Town Quay and provides easy, nearby access to the Cornish Coastal Path, Saints Way and many other stunning walks.
If you don't want to travel by car, travel by train to Par Station (a couple of miles away) with good services to and from London or Newquay Airport. The local Yeo Taxis provide a very good service from the station or airport.
This is an ideal place for a holiday by the sea where you can watch the sailing from St Catherine’s Point and the visiting cruise ships arrive. Visit Readymoney beach, Coombe Martin bay and Polridmouth on the edge of the former home of Daphne du Maurier - all within walking distance.
Take the easy walk into Fowey to sample the many first class restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops and let the town bus bring you back to Four Turnings, away from the noise and bustle of the town. The nearby garage provides newspapers and other essentials.
The Du Maurier Festival village is within easy walking distance and provides a very comprehensive programme of walks, talks and concerts during May. Fowey Regatta is held in mid August, a whole week of activities for all ages, concerts on the quay and the sailing, of course!
Small motor boats are available for hire off Town Quay and for the more enthusiastic, sailing boats for hire are readily available.
The car ferry at Caffa Mill will take you across to the village of Bodinnick where you can visit the Old Ferry Inn which serves excellent meals and cream teas. Bodinnick also provides easy access to the Hall Walk where you can enjoy stunning views of Fowey Harbour.
The passenger ferry from Whitehouse to Polruan runs regularly all through the summer months taking you across the harbour – a trip in itself. From Polruan, walk the coastal path to Lantic Bay and beyond to Polperro. A good walk to nearby Polkerris either along the coast or across country will reveal the lovely beach with surfing facilities.
Eat at the stunning Sam’s on the Beach where the food is locally sourced and includes locally caught seafood, stone baked pizzas and a take away menu or have a drink at the Rashleigh Arms overlooking the sea. Stay long enough and you will enjoy the spectacular sunset!
A short car ride away is Lanhydrock House (twenty minutes), the Eden Project (twenty mins) and the Lost Gardens of Heligan (forty mins). Visit the ancient town of Lostwithiel (fifteen mins away), crammed full of antique shops, the castle, antique fairs, auctions, pubs, restaurants and cafes along the river’s edge.
Visit Fowey’s neighbour on the River Fowey, Golant, which has a lovely riverside pub hosting real ale festivals and live bands on the terrace and the ancient Church of St Sampsons. Golant can be accessed on foot or is a five minute drive away.
Charlestown, Looe, St Austell and Mevagissey are all within easy reach by car or bus with Truro is a little further on. Neighbouring Charlestown is the home of many tall ships that can be seen in the harbour and is often used as a film location turning the little harbour into an historical setting.
Padstow, the home of Rick Stein, is within easy driving distance as is Wadebridge, home of the Royal Cornwall Show. Here you can hire a bike and cycle along the lovely estuary to Padstow and enjoy Rick Stein’s fish and chips beside the busy fishing harbour. The local tourist office in Fowey Post Office offer bus outings to areas of interest and other towns. |
