Living
Two cosy separate holiday cottages that are located in a wonderful tranquil position surrounded by open fields, with beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountain Range. The peaceful location and natural beauty of this delightful area has drawn guests back time and again over the past thirty years. There is stream running below the cottages (over an old bridge), which often attracts deer. Red squirrels and hares are also frequent visitors. In addition, feeders are put out for those who enjoy the wide variety of birdlife. Wildlife photographer, Karen Miller, has written a photoblog about her stay at the cottages ("Living my wildlife dream") and you can read about this and see her amazing pictures by clicking through to the owners blog via the 'owners website' button.
The holiday cottages are situated in an elevated position, close to the Highland village of Dulnain Bridge (half a mile walk), well away from any main roads. You can stroll into the village which has two hotels and a Post Office. The local area also offers a good range of outdoor activities to enjoy, including good opportunities for golf, river fishing, cycling routes, tennis courts and swimming pools. It is a wonderful place for families with much to offer all ages.
The town of Grantown-on-Spey is a ten minute drive and offers shops, restaurants and pubs and Nethy Bridge is a similar distance. Aviemore, the main tourist centre, is fifteen minutes away.
Directly from the cottages you can enjoy many fantastic walks through hills and forest with the opportunity to watch birds and enjoy the local wildlife along the way. Buzzards can be seen over the hills and there are many red squirrels to be seen. There is also Loch Garten with its Osprey Centre, making a wonderful day out for bird watchers. Ordinance survey maps of the local area can be borrowed for the duration of your holiday, with 'Upper Finlarig' marked on them.
Whatever the time of the year, the cottages provide a welcoming base to explore the area and relax. Within easy reach of Cairngorm and Lecht, guests can enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. The Strathspey Steam Railway runs from Aviemore via Boat-of-Garten to Broomhill Station close to the cottages. Also within the surrounding area are the Reindeer Centre on the road up to the Cairngorm Mountains, The Highland Folk Museum, Landmark Forest Adventure Park and the Highland Wildlife Park (an impressive safari park of some one hundred plus acres). The attractive seaside town of Nairn with its glorious beaches, Loch Ness (spanning twenty three miles!), the city of Inverness, the moray village of Findhorn with its beaches and dunes, and Culloden Battlefield are too within easy driving distance.
