Portsonachan Hotel and Self catering lodges provides an excellent Scottish holiday destination within Argyllshire, West of Scotland. There is something for everyone here with a choice both bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation available.

Located in an enviable position on the banks of the beautiful Loch Awe, Portsonachan Hotel is steeped in history and has been a coaching Inn for several hundred years. It is one and a half hours drive from Glasgow, two and a half from Edinburgh and a one hour drive from Oban, the 'Gateway to the Isles'.  Dalmally, is one of the most pleasant villages in the Highlands and is just two miles from Loch Awe. 

Loch Awe is a beautiful place which has several ruined castles on islands, along with having one of the most photographed castles in Scotland - Kilchurn Castle a 'must' to visit at the northern end of the loch. The two ends of the loch are entirely dissimilar in character with the scenery of the lower half being pastoral and tame and the upper half extremity being majestic.

There are plenty of outdoor activities you can enjoy from here: how about sailing on the third longest loch in Scotland; fishing on Scotland's premier wild fishing loch which is home to a wide assortment of fish including char, pike, salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout (no permit required for guests); walking through the most awe inspiring scenery where you can see Ospreys, Otters, Sea Eagles and the mighty Golden Eagle to name just a few; exploring the area by bike (mountain bikes can be hired from the hotel) or take to the water and try wind surfing, canoeing, yachting and water skiing.

Alternatively, you may just choose to enjoy a meal at the hotel or simply relax by the loch whilst enjoying a barbecue or soothing your aches away in the hot tub.
