The Deckhouse is a luxurious, self-catering holiday cottage which is perfectly located in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland in the picturesque village of Craobh Haven. The cottage is surrounded by breathtaking scenery with exceptional unspoilt sea views of the yacht marina and many Scottish islands.
Located in the historic heart of Scotland between Lochgilphead and Oban, The Deckhouse provides an ideal base for exploring lochs and glens, local history, touring, horse riding, golfing, walking, sailing, fishing, cycling, watching wildlife or simply relaxing watching the beautiful sunsets.
The Islands of The Inner Hebrides - notably, Iona, Mull, Jura, Islay, Colonsay, Tiree and Barra, are all within easy reach by the ferry from Oban and boat trips are also available from the marina at Craobh Haven. As well as the busy 200 berth marina and chandlery the village also offers a well stocked store and the local pub/restaurant which produces excellent dining and bar meals for all the family.
This beautiful area of Scotland has plenty of habited and ruined castles and many sites of historical and architectural interest to visit. Kilmartin house is just south from the cottage and houses an archaeology centre. Oban is about eighteen miles North and has most of the ferry routes and daily boat trips to the Isles. Mull, which has many popular tourist attractions (miniature steam railway, Tobermory, distillery and more) can easily be explored within a day from the cottage by taking the ferry from Oban, as can Jura and Iona.
Argyll is renowned for its many fine gardens such as Crarae Garden, and just five minutes from the cottage on the way to Oban is Arduaine Gardens. There are many places to eat within a few miles including the local pub and restaurant within the village and the Loch Melfort Hotel just five minutes away beside Arduaine Gardens.
Within a short drive there are many more places of interest including: Loch Awe; Seal centre; Oban Marine; Rare Breeds Farm; Inverary Castle; Inverary Jail; Argyll Wildlife Park and Auchindrain Township Museum. There is good fishing available around the coast or in the nearby lochs and rivers. Boat trips can be organised to the ‘Corrievreckan’ – the largest whirlpool in Europe and also to the surrounding islands where you can enjoy seeing seals, otters and possibly corncrakes.
Other activities include: mountain bike trails; horse riding; water sports and golf, all of which are in the local area. There are many wonderful walks from the very doorstep of the cottage and it is also possible to walk to the village of Ardfern which boasts ‘The Crafty Kitchen’ café and the popular pub ‘The Galley of Lorne’.
