Built in a traditional style, this delightful, architect-designed holiday cottage offers magnificent sea views from the main open plan living area which is upstairs and enables guests to enjoy an elevated outlook to Jura and Islay.
Comfortably accommodating six to eight guests, but equally suitable for couples, this beautifully presented cottage provides the perfect place to escape the pressures of every day life. Here you can enjoy spectacular scenery, magnificent views, stunning beaches and an abundance of wildlife including dolphins, otters, wild goats, seals and rare birds including the Golden Eagle!
Lying in the Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland, the Isle of Colonsay affords spectacular views across the horizon to the Isle of Mull, the islands of Jura and Islay and on a good day, the coast of Donegal in Ireland.
The island is one of the most remote communities with just over one hundred inhabitants, a shop and post office where you can stock up on provisions, two churches, resident doctor, its own brewery and a tea shop. It also has its own hotel (within walking distance from the cottage) serving very good gastro-pub type food incorporating local produce and seafood wherever possible - you must sample Colonsay's home-bred oysters!
Colonsay, along with Oronsay, its semi-detatched neighbour, is one of the smallest inhabited Hebridean islands being approximately ten miles long and two miles wide. There are many wonderful sandy beaches with crystal clear waters, where you are sure to find a quiet place to relax or explore the rock pools. It is perfect for those who enjoy walking and cycling (bikes can be hired on the island), and has much to offer wildlife enthusiasts, plant lovers and anyone with an appreciation for unspoilt natural beauty. The island also has its own 18 hole golf course and both sea and loch fishing can be enjoyed along with fly fishing.
The dramatic cliffs on the western coast of the island are home to huge colonies of seabirds including guillemots, fulmars, kittiwakes, shags and razorbills; and the rocky inlets attract terns, eiders and oyster catchers among others. Seal colonies can also be spotted on the south west coast, along with the islands surrounding Oronsay.
The island can be accessed by a ferry that runs five times a week during summer months and three times during winter, along with a regular scheduled air service from Oban - it is just waiting to be explored!
