Aspenholm is a lovely self catering holiday cottage that provides self contained accommodation on the upper floor of a former distillery house, built in 1900. It is the perfect base for a holiday in Royal Deeside and is on the very edge of Balmoral estate, the summer home of the Royal Family.
The holiday cottage has been beautifully furnished in a modern contemporary style and is located within the pretty popular village of Crathie. Crathie itself is situated in the heart of the Dee Valley between Braemar and Ballater, and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
Aspenholm provides all the perfect ingredients for you to enjoy this beautiful area which is steeped in history. In the heart of the Royal Deeside, the cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Cairngorm Mountains and National Park.
As you would expect, there is a wide variety of sporting activities close at hand including hill walking and mountain biking throughout most of the year, ski-ing at either Glenshee or Lecht and local seasonal fishing on the River Dee (by arrangement locally). The local golf courses include Braemar, Ballater and Aboyne and there really is something for all the family!
There are many National Trust properties to explore, and you could not visit this area without sampling a ‘Dram’ at the neighbouring Royal Lochnagar Distillery, one of many distilleries in the wider area.
For those looking for a relaxing break, there are plenty of places to take a gentle stroll, do a spot of village shopping or enjoy some fine dining at local restaurants and hotels.
Seasonal highlights on Deeside include: the Braemar Gathering (first Saturday of September); the Aboyne Highland Games (first Saturday in August) and the Ballater Highland Games (second Thursday in August). Ballater Royal Deeside Walking Festival takes place from May 17th - May 23rd with three categories of walk ranging from easy to strenuous and beautiful Balmoral Castle is open to visitors between April and July.
